Some Fat Facts
Excess weight is the result of the body storing
energy that is not used, mainly caused by
excessive calorie intake, insufficient energy
expenditure and inefficient, sluggish
metabolism.
Weight problems can lead to health problems. The
United States National Institutes of Health, the
World Health Organization and many other
scientific institutes have confirmed the health
hazards of fat. It is generally agreed that
excess fat can significantly shorten one's
lifespan, causing major diseases such as clogged
arteries, hypertension, heart attack, stroke,
diabetes, cholesterol gallstones,
osteoarthritis, and various cancers (including
breast, cervical, uterine, prostate and colon
cancer).
How Do You Score?
Try this simple test
(weight in kilogram):
MALE: Ideal Weight = [Height (cm) - 80]
x 0.7 ± 10%
FEMALE: Ideal Weight = [Height (cm) -
70] x 0.6 ± 10%
If you are
10%-50%
more than your
ideal weight, you are definitely
overweight.
If you are over
50% more,
you are seriously overweight.
For conversion,
1lb = 0.45 kg, 1 inch = 2.54cm |
